School Starting 8am became a problem for students (who ride the bus) because they are not receiving enough sleep, have limited time to get to prep materials for class and limited time to eat breakfast etc.
With school starting at 8am students who ride the bus are not receiving enough sleep due to the fact that they have to get up much earlier than students who don’t ride the bus. When students do not get up to at least 8 hours of sleep they will not be able to give full participation and full attention to their studies. In addition to lack of sleep, school starting at 8am and the doors opening around 7:50 doesn't give students enough time to go to their locker get their materials and prep for class. If class starts at 8:00am that students only has about 10 minutes to get to their locker and prep their materials for their first hour class. Considering that it takes at least 5 minutes to enter the school from the bus, that only leaves the student 5 minutes to get their materials in order. Furthermore, that student has now has to be able to do all the other things that are necessary for the day.
Lastly, It’s unfair to any student who rides the bus to have only 10 minutes to enter the cafeteria, wait in lane, eat their food, and be able to make to class on time. Waiting in line takes around 5 minutes and it takes more than 5 minutes to properly eat their entire breakfast. Breakfast has been proven to be the most important meal of the day (common knowledge).
