For example, in Sunnyside High School their dress code handbook of 2014-2015 has various examples relating to clothing and gangs. For instance, code number four states “Clothing with logos/mascots of professional sports is prohibited, (i.e. Raiders, 49ers, Oakland A’s, Dodgers) and code number five states “Any clothing depicting bulldogs such as Fresno State Bulldogs and Georgetown Hoyas are not acceptable”. The Dress Code book also goes into more depth explaining who is responsible for enforcing their rules and the punishments the students receive from breaking them. …show more content…
Step one is a warning along with confiscating the items out of the dress code for parent pick up. While step three results in the student to be formally suspended from school. Another policy that is in the process of banning more clothing is schools is banning shirts with the California flag. In my judgment, schools should not ban shirts with the California Flag because in schools they have flags of California hung up. In addition, during the Pledge of Allegiance there tends to be a California Republic flag next to the American flag. Not to mention, the State Education code allows students to express their political ideas and expressions through their clothing, buttons and other graphical displays. While on the other hand, the media has a different mindset. Royal Calkins Is a writer for the Monterey Heard and in his article “Should schools ban California flag shirts? Royal Calkins says yes” states “Some gangs apparently have adopted the flag as a symbol and some have incorporated various place names into their nonsense”.
