Why was Lincoln known as the Great Emancipator? The Great Emancipator is known as the person who ended slavery and ended the civil war. I think Lincoln should be known as the Great Emancipator. At the time slavery was how many African Americans had to live with for hundreds of years and caused a very big argument among the states.
