Why We Can T Wait Rhetorical Analysis

When writing a book, literary devices have to be used throughout the whole thing. Only the best authors know how to use them to advance their meaning through their words. They know how to use words to get the reader's attention, and normally sway them to their own side and see from their perspective. One of the most persuasive people in the history of the US is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with the civil rights movement. In his book Why We Can’t Wait he uses multiple devices including pathos through imagery, irony, and even motif.
In the first part of the passage of Dr. King's book, a lot of his explanation of why white skinned people and black skinned people should have equal rights, was based upon pathos via imagery. He didn’t just come out and say things that will affect your emotion, he used his talent at putting words together to bring pictures into your mind that will then trigger your emotions wanting to have equal rights no matter

For Dr. King, it was how blacks got discriminated against for no apparent reason, other than their skin color. “Wherever there was hard work, dirty work, dangerous work-in the mines, on the docks, in the blistering foundries- Negroes had done more than their share.” (Lines 35-36). No matter what the job was, if the whites didn't want to do the work, the blacks were always forced to do it because if they didn’t, they wouldn’t have a job to look forward to everyday. They wouldn't get paid. Therefore they would not be able to support their families. Just because they are darker skinned, doesn't mean they don't have a family. They were considered less than whites just because of their skin color. Because of one simple feature that is uncontrollable to human beings, they were put down for not being as advanced as the rest of the world.
