The researchers focus on the history of oppression regarding people of color and how it influences the present. For example, they claim that different policies were pushed to be enacted by people of color to “confront racism and segregation through nonviolent means” (25). The authors discuss how even the hardships faced by people of color affect them today as well. These articles are important to use due to the fact that it gives examples of how certain groups of people fought for their equality, and similarities can be found between that and the steps transgenders are taking. They are also important because it relates to how despite multiple policies enacted to ensure transgender equality, and how these policies do not remove the oppression. By using these articles for research, we can answer the question regarding the different genres and rhetoric used by people of color and how they differ from the genres and rhetoric used by transgenders to preach
