The First World War also known as World War I or The Great War was a war that started over a dispute between Serbia and Austria. Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary was shot in Bosnia by a Serbian member of a secret society called the Black Hand. Austria-Hungary responded to this event by presenting an ultimatum which Serbia mostly agreed on, but Serbia offered some unfavorable demands to be settled at an international conference. This enraged Austria-Hungary which led them to declaring war on Serbia. But this didn’t cause a world war. Although there are many theories of the cause of World War I, I believe that Germany caused it. In the summer of 1914, Germany introduced a battle strategy called the Schlieffen Plan which is a strategy involving quick mobilization of troops from the west to the east . Germany also introduced a new underwater naval ship called the submarine and used it to sink any ships that was in waters near Britain. These events are significant because it alarmed many countries around the world. I believe Germany’s militarism and military tactics caused World War I.

This policy meant that Germany will sink any ships near British waters. In 1915, Germany sunk a British ship called Lusitania which killed 128 American passengers (Modern World History pg 418). The US broke diplomatic relationships with Germany and germany sunk five more American ships (http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/germans-unleash-u-boats) . The US then declared war on Germany. The US was very strong/able to deploy many men and financially stable because they had enough money. The US spent $22.6 billion on the war which is more than Russia even though Russia was in the war longer than the US. Involving a country like this into a war is like putting a Megaladon inside a fight of Great White Sharks. Involving the US into the war was a foolish mistake of the
