World War I was an international conflict that began on July 28, 1914, and ended on November 11, 1918. The start of WWI had been influenced by alliances, militarism, imperialism, and nationalism, which had begun with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Austria. Trench warfare was involved in World War I, where soldiers lived in dangerous trenches that were located on battlefields. The trench warfare eventually led to many ending up dead or traumatized from their battles. The war concluded with the Treaty of Versailles in 1919, which Germany was forced to sign and pay many reparations and territorial losses they had initiated. Germany is forced to accept peace terms from various countries to prevent future issues at the end of the …show more content…

This document explains that Serbia, Austria, Russia, Germany, and France are being all dragged down together as they’re all attempting to help each other during the war, ultimately sparking the Great War. This document supports the claim of alliances being a major cause of World War I because it demonstrates the issues of agreements between countries, such as the Triple Entente and the Triple Alliance, but pulling multiple countries into major issues once one member was targeted. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Austria influenced the beginning of WWI. As stated in Document (2), Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were killed in Austria by a Serbian student in 1914. This assassination caused Austria-Hungary to declare war on Serbia and set off a reaction of alliances among European nations and their powers. These events led to the outbreak of World War I through alliances among European countries.
