A Humble Proposition: A lenient guide for the lowering of the obesity rate and child health issues, in the great nation of America
To the people who over consume fast food on the basis of such products being affordable and readily available. You’ve been persuaded to believe that the products of major fast food restaurants, such as McDonalds, Taco Bell, Burger King, and Taco Bell, have no abnormalities and are healthy, delicious, and extremely affordable. To whom of which, continue on in absolute blindness from the truth.
For how long will the people of America put up with such a deceitful industry? Some may argue that yes, fast food chains knowingly provide options that encourage weight gain at an unprecedented rate. Others may argue that people choose to eat fast food, and that responsibility lies solely with the individual. In fact, “more than 78 million U.S. adults and about 12.5 million children were obese in 2009-2010; the largest proportion of fast food calories consumed was among obese people.”
“Every day, nearly one-third of U.S. children aged 4 to 19 eat fast food, which likely packs on about six extra pounds per child per year and increases the risk of obesity”. Knowing the unhealthy nature of these foods, parents still purchase such food for their children. Advertising is also a key contributor because it is mostly directed at kids.
