Adolescence is when a child physically and mentally develops from a child into a young adult, this happens between the ages of 11 and 18. Through this life stage they will start puberty and become a legal adult. During the they will develop their secondary sexual characteristics and their sexual organs will mature which makes reproduction possible.

Physical: Throughout adolescence a child develops into a young adult through puberty. Puberty is a time when sexual organs become fertile which is caused by the GPR54 gene which sends signals to the brain and triggers a chain reaction and the release of hormones into the body. Testosterone is the hormone that is released into a male's body and oestrogen is released into a women's body. There are five stages of puberty where different body parts will develop.
Throughout puberty girl's will experience a change in their physical appearance for example they will grow taller, possibly gain weight, their nipples will swell and eventually develop adult-like breasts and their hips will widen to produce a body that is ady to carry children. Female adolescence's will also experience monthly periods that lasts for an average of 3-7 days. Each month during ovulation the ovaries release an egg into the womb, if this egg is not fertilised then it discarded through vagina along with the womb lining. Body hair will also begin to grow on legs, thighs, underarms and in pubic regions, the amount of body hair on an individual varies.
