3/29/24 Ancient Greece Civilizations, like Greece, are known to expand over time. Greece expanded through their daily life, their trade, and much, much more.There is a great deal to learn about their culture and extensive history. Studying the history of Greece can be highly engaging. Additionally, Greece is larger than we realize. The following are: Geography, Government, Religion, Social Structure, Economy, and Accomplishments. Geography To begin with, Greece was surrounded by water on three sides and had high mountains like Mount Olympus, which rose to a height of 9,500 feet, according to page 283, paragraph two. In order to obtain metal, grain, and lumber, many Greek settlements depended on trade between city states. If not, some people would go the long route and cultivate olives, grapes, wheat, and barley. To obtain wool, cheese, and milk, some people would even raise animals. Then, Greece is divided into three main regions: the main land, which is located in Southern Europe, the peninsula where the Mycenaeans once lived, and Crete which is located to the south of the main land. This evidence is located in paragraph two, page 282. These places provide the best and most appropriate living conditions. To end it off, Greece had difficult living conditions and had to work and trade for essential items. They were hardworking and persevering through their daily lives. Government Greek governments included tyranny, democracy, oligarchy, and monarchy among other forms of government. A purpose was served by each of these governments. The poor get poorer, while the rich get richer. Moving forward, tyranny was the third government. Among the significant deaths were the murders of Hippias and Hipparchus. These two were in charge as tyrants, and their authority was unrestricted by the law. The majority overthrew tyrants, such as the two brothers Hippias and Hipparchus. But some other tyrants improved the lives of the poor. Those who struggled, the tyrants would help. This was found on page 294, paragraphs one to three. Lastly, we have democracy. Democracy was a form of government where every citizen was included. On page 294, paragraphs one to three, citizens were allowed to vote on every issue. Some might even declare war, or even vote on a new law. In this government, everyone has a voice, a chance to speak, and opinions are heard. Finally, to summarize, there are many different forms of government, and each one has a purpose. These governments are the key to success as a civilization. Religion Greek religion was polytheistic, which meant there were multiple gods. They paid tribute to the gods of Greece. At that time, religion was very important and common in daily life such as asking the gods for assistance when
