To most citizens of the United States, the terror attacks of September 11, 2001, were a tragic and horrific violation of the liberty that America stood for. While it was a tragedy, it managed to strengthen America's resolve and brought the nation together to face a threat that had not been seen much by the public eye, terrorism. Without the attacks on September ninth, the United States might not have strengthened its defensive policies and taken the fight to terrorists around the globe in the war on terror.

After the attacks, it became clear that security around our borders and in our airports needed to change. A new emphasis was put on vetting and security checks, therefore making entering and leaving the country more difficult. Although getting around became much more difficult than it was before, travel is now safer than ever before.
In retaliation for the attacks on 9/11, the U.S. began the war on terror. Beginning in 2001 and still continuing to this day, the war on terror has spanned over many middle-eastern countries, some of the most well-known ones being Iraq and Afghanistan. This war has sparked numerous controversial and political issues regarding interference in the affairs of other countries and wars that have broken out as a result of foreign intervention. If the U.S. had not began a campaign against terrorist threats, many nations would be different than they are now, and some nations might not exist at all.
