In Brave New World, they have disturbing moral standards because of what they love. Men talk about having sex with women casually and publicly like they are objects. This is evident in the novel when Henry Foster tells the Assistant Predestinator about Lenina. He says “I’m surprised you haven’t had her.” The Assistant Predestinator responds with, “I certainly will. At the first opportunity.” They speak about Lenina as if she is just an object of pleasure and not an actual person. Because of this love for sex, the World State has created a society of uncaring and contemptuous people. This issue is relevant in today’s society because women struggle with objectification in the media. The method, “sex sells”, is used to gain popularity in movies, television, music videos, etc.. According to Michael Peters, author of Women, Sex and Film: The Objectified Woman and Her Quest For Subjectivity, “men have always been considered the maker of meaning in films and as long as this continues, women will forever be objected to the voyeuristic gazes of the masses.” This objectification has led our society to have low moral standards for how women are treated and viewed, similar to how they are in Brave New World. People love to view women as sexual objects and if this problem continues to worsen, they will be seen as nothing else. Respect and morality would be ruined like Huxley
