I have always wanted to be a physical therapist ever since I was a young kid when I found out my grandmother had Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). My grandmother is a huge inspiration in my life. She is solely responsible for why I want to be a physical therapist. Whenever I am around my grandmother, I get depressed because I notice she is in so much pain and there is nothing I can do about it. I chose this career because I want to help patients like my grandmother. I want to help relieve their pain, increase mobility, and decrease long-term physical disabilities. Most PT programs have minimum grade point average (GPA) requirements. The average accepted GPA is 3.52 (Ross, 25 April 2017). Most PT programs requires applicants to have a certain amount of volunteer or paid PT experiences working with patients under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist. I plan to volunteer this summer at the Northampton VA hospital. Number of required hours is different for each school. The most commonly required course prerequisites include Biology I & II, General Chemistry I & II, and General Physics I & II. All of these courses require a lab as well. Also, it is highly recommended that each applicant has between 2 to 4 references letters. This is my first semester here at Springfield College. I am doing really well in all my classes so
