In the book “ A Long Walk To Water by Linda Sue Park” she documents the life of one of the ‘Lost Boys,’ Salva Dut ages 11-28. Salva is determined to find his family, “If they are here I will find them.” Throughout Salva’s journey he was determined, obtained relationships, and used his intellect.
Salva obtains relationships with multiple people who help him persevere through his journey.
Salva grows closer to an older woman ‘Auntie’ and works to not burden her.
This shows how mature Salva truly is as he refuses to cause the older woman any trouble while he lives in her barn. Salva has his uncle to keep close to him which helps him to pull through because he has someone in his family or someone who he can stay with. …show more content…
“You must be hungry,” “A few moments later she came back out and gave him two handfuls of raw peanuts.” This shows that during times of adversity you don’t who or what you might encounter that may save/help with problems and in Salva’s case if he didn’t receive the peanuts it's possible he could have died. “How was it that he was not one of the thousand? Why was he one of the lucky ones?” This shows that he began to think about how thousands of people had died and how he was one of the more fortunate people. Salva is fortunate that he is one of the people who were able to go to America. This tells you that Salva is fortunate he was able to go to America and help his family and have a better life where he it’s not plagued by war.
