One thing Bill and Katz learned early on was they both were inexperienced in hiking. Bill spent a whole afternoon shopping for different things for the hike. They both were fearful not knowing what they might encounter. Each day was different. The conditions they had to hike in, to where they were going to sleep that night, and nevertheless, if they were going to encounter any kind of creatures in the wild. They went through all types of weather from constant snowing, to constant raining. Majority of the times they would sleep in Appalachian Trail shelters. They were not very appealing. One shelter was full of mice crawling all over their sleeping bags, and floor. Katz was fighting every mouse that came his way. Nevertheless, they were hoping not to encounter any bears.
