In our society, there are many ethical dilemmas that we are faced with that are virtually impossible to give a proven answer too. One of the most difficult and controversial issues that we are faced with is abortion. The complexity of this issue lies in the different aspects of the argument. The essence of a person, rights, and who is entitled to these rights, are a few of the many aspects which are very difficult to define.
Scene A
Shane and Emily are a couple that have been dating for nearly three years now. Over this time they have been slowly progressing, becoming emotionally stronger but also forming a sexual relationship. Without parental help and a solid income, Emily will not be financially stable in order to provide for the numerous costs of a baby child. Along with birthing costs, the necessary obstetrician visits that will ensure healthy fetal development can lead to higher risk of complications during early infancy. Emily would be worried about the exorbitant costs of a hospital birth, approximately $8,000 and prenatal care can cost between $1,500 and $3,000.

Other
Along with financial instability and family dilemmas, there are other reasons for why Emily would wish to have an abortion. Emily is a highly career driven woman, currently involved in a medical sciences degree in university and is achieving highly. This may present a significant barrier to Emily, as it would put a halt to her career pathway. Additionally, Emily may feel she is not to a level of maturity to support a child and all the accompanying responsibilities

Stakeholders
Emily’s partner Shane may in the moment be desperate to have an abortion but, in a few years time look back and wonder what he would have gained from going through with the pregnancy, and what he may have learnt.
