Cheating, probably the most popular of the bunch, is a plague that strikes every campus no matter what the school’s prestige may be. Cheating is the when students act dishonestly or they act unfairly so they may have an advantage. For instance, there was a case at The University of Harvard where 125 students were caught cheating on an exam. Their intentions were to all pass the exam, unfairly, so that they would not fail the class. Once caught, many of the students were put on academic probation while others withdrew from the school completely. Another example is when my teacher surprised the class with a pop quiz. A famous example of plagiarism is by a man named Jayson Blaire who made up false stories and quotes for the New York Times. He also admitted to stealing from other newspapers. Once he was caught, Jayson was of course fired from his job. An additional illustration of plagiarism is a time in one of my classes where a student copied an entire essay from online. The teacher used “Turnitin” and caught him red handed. He would of course have received a zero.
