Diversity is a very important aspect of life, as you have to give respect and consideration to people who are different from you or maybe do not share the same beliefs. Having an open-mind and being able to accept and learn from different people’s cultures and lives can make you a much more knowledgeable and thoughtful person. It is easy to point out the negative stereotypes rather than meeting someone and talking to them and understanding how they live their life and the reasons they live that way. Doing this is so important today to be able to learn from other people because of the growing diverse population within the United States. Developing relationships with people from different cultures opens your mind and gives you a chance to see how people from all around the world live based on their beliefs. Weakening the networks and relationships with people due to differences and over all diversity as a whole, will decrease your chances of having a more open and influential experience.

With diversity comes biased opinions, stereotypes, hate crimes, and sometimes assault due to differences between people and beliefs. On campus it is very easier to encounter one of these situations due to everyone being different. An important part of accepting diversity is being able to effectively communicate and comprehend other people’s beliefs. In the United States we tend to have a more individualistic culture where we do not really care for learning about diversity and other people.
