Where does a person develop the lesson of personal growth and learning? I believe it is through the values and ethics they will carry through life. Most lessons are learned from the family who one is raised in, while others may be learned from peers or society in general. My own values are a mixture of all those along with the experiences I have had throughout my lifetime. Having overcome many obstacles in my own life, helping others find ways to overcome their own obstacles has long been a goal of mine. Rules are a way to maintain structure in life and must be adhered to if any sense of balance is to exist. A person must set her own set of ground rules that run her own life, and the way she interacts with others. My rules have been set to make sure others are not offended by my deeds or words. Children are always shown respect by me, as they are often seeking attention that will provide them with a sense of themselves. Adults, although treated with respect, are more likely to be treated as they present themselves. If they are rude and demeaning, I will treat them a little more curtly than I would ever treat a child. Working in learning teams has showed me how to understand other perspectives and actions. I am more open minded when it comes to others views and I gain more knowledge by observing others strategy and way of life. To achieve my goals I must stay consistent and be open to the evaluation and critique of my superiors for self improvement. Senge's five disciplines include: personal mastery, mental models, shared vision, team learning, and systems thinking. The first discipline refers to personal growth and learning.
