Twenty-four guns were used during this incident. A few short weeks after the Active Shooter situation at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, another active shooter situation occurred at the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, Texas. The First Baptist Church incident involved a former U.S. Air Force Airman who took the lives of 26 individuals and wounded 20 more. Later, on April 22, 2018, an Active Shooter Situation occurred at a Waffle House in Nashville, TN. At this event, five victims were killed and four were injured. As of today, the most recent Active Shooter Situation in America took place at a high school in Santa Fe, California on May 18, 2018. On this day, a student opened fire on his classmates, teacher, and school resource officer. Ten victims were killed and ten more were injured. It should be noted that the events listed and described do not represent an exhaustive list of all recent active shooter situations in the United States. Often, the organization, more specifically, a spokesperson from the organization, is asked to make a statement and answer questions regarding the incident. Therefore, the organization must decide on an opening statement to make. Then, the organization should anticipate questions that will be raised by the media and surrounding communities. A likely question the organization will have to respond to is, “how did the active shooter gain access to the location of the incident, and what security measures were in place to prevent the incident?” If an organization has crafted, tested, and evaluated their plan, they should be in a good position to answer questions regarding the event.
Also, organizations should enlist the help of professional to deal with post-accident grief and mourning. For example, it would be a great idea for a school to enlist grief counselors after an active shooter event to help students, faculty, and staff process their feelings and
