I am happy to discuss this important topic that has happened in history. Segregation is a tough time for Black Americans. Segreagation was characterized by inequality and injustice for black Americans. Black Americans were excluded from many different activities in their lives. However, the Civil Rights Movement gave hope to black Americans. After the war, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's "I Have a Dream" speech was powerful and gave Black Americans hope that they would have the same rights as white Americans. Segregation began in the late 19th century in the South. There were laws that dictated a black person's life; these laws were called the Black Codes. Black Americans are still not free from what started in the 19th century to the present day. The Constitution of the United States promised all black American men to be equal to white men. This agreement gave hope to black Americans for a better life in the future. Americans are now guaranteed the rights to life, liberty, and happiness regardless of their skin color. However, as time went by inequality remained for many black Americans, the harsh reality of segregation continued. Imagine there is a dinner party where everyone is sharing their wealth. There are many open tables with large amounts of food and in the middle of the celebration there is a divider that blocks some people and allows some to get through. This represents the injustice that black Americans went through. Black Americans were excluded and watched white Americans enjoying life that they were not able to have because of their skin color. There were many poor northern cities where we saw injustice for black Americans. People in our country need to continue to fight for black people to be treated better and not discriminated against because of their skin color. This could give hope for a better future for black Americans. This could help bring us together as a nation to fight for black rights. Black Americans had the opposite of this beautiful view: they were treated differently because of their skin color. They are unable to live the same life as white Americans.
