According to the American Federation of Teachers, there are about 7,000 high-poverty schools identified as low-performing (Kahlenberg 1). Kids in these public schools are considered low performing, while rich private schools can prepare their students very well for standardized tests. Simply where a student lives and learns can determine their testing scores. This is also why standardized testing is unfair and should be ignored. The last reason the education system should outlaw standardized testing is because they test for unnecessary qualities. Most tests, such as the SAT, test for English, math, reading, and science. These topics are core classes in most curriculums and most students have studied material like this before. However, depending on what career a student wants to pursue, most of these qualities could be reserved skills. Many remote jobs over the computer allow for easy language translation and websites can be used to make graphs and calculate math problems. According to an Indeed editorial written by employers, the top skills managers are looking for in interviews are communication skills, leadership, teamwork, interpersonal (ability to work well with others) skills, and more that the SAT and ACT do not mention (Top 11 …show more content…
To conclude, there should be no more standardized tests because they pose certain unfair advantages and disadvantages, evoke stress that can alter results, and test outdated knowledge and skills. Every year, more and more students are being taken advantage of while the College Board, the company responsible for most standardized tests, assumes the profit. Standardized testing was developed in the 1800’s (ProCon). This means that these tests have been around since Civil War Time. The United States has experienced several changes in multiple aspects, yet we continue to take these tests. These assessments are not good for the benefit or health of young students and continue to bring turmoil to these young futures.
