Women and the Revolution The American Revolution had significant influences in the freedom of American women and it was the start of many changes in women’s lives. The women in this century spent their lives performing traditional domestic tasks. However, the revolutionary ideology changed many of these household activities and led women to take part in different activities. Some women from different statues in the society started to take a step towards gaining their rights. Mercy Otis Warren, Abigail Adams, Phillis Wheatley, Mum Bett, Jemima Wilkson, and Deborah Sampson are among women who had significant effect on women’s thought regarding their rights, which women previously did not have.

These women lived in a society that putting their names on anything wasn’t common and acceptable. Mercy Otis Warren was from a high status whose husband was a politician and a merchant. She was active in politics and started writing pamphlets, pomes, and plays. These were the ways she wanted to express and voice her opinion. Her poems were about revolutionary exploits and about war. Abigail Adams was the most admired American first lady who had an interest in politics. She made her mark on public life through informal channels on politics. She started commenting and advising her husband freely on political questions. She managed her family’s farm, which was common for men than women to do that. Also, she acquired education and wanted other women to get education. She wanted more protection in laws for all women. These women by their actions show us the very beginning of women taking actions toward their rights and voicing their opinions in the
