Class Project ALS is a complex neurodegenerative disease. It’s a very rapid progressive disease. ALS is genetic and had increased a lot in the past couple of years. It disturbs the nerve system, the brain and the spinal cord in the body. It is also well-known as the “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”. The motor neutrons go from the brain to the spinal cord and then they hit the muscles in the body, when these things start to not function, which is when it causes the person death. When these motor neutrons begin to die, it causes motor and brain skills to be lost. The disease ends up making patients become paralyzed.
Here is a little break down to how they came up with Amyotrophic Later Sclerosis. The first part A-Myo-Trophic is actually Greek the “A” means no and the second and third part of the first word means nourishment. When the muscles of a person has ALS their muscles have no nourishment and it cause them to waste away. The word “Lateral” means location of different areas in a person’s spinal cord where the cells is that signals and controls the muscles. When this area starts to dysfunction it cause scarring or causes hardening in the part of the body. …show more content…
The first signs of having ALS is muscles weakness in the arms and legs, then it begins to start bothering the speech, swallowing, and breathing. When the muscles in your body no longer get the messages from the neutrons, the muscles start to become weak and begin to look smaller. Once that begins to start they loss the motor skills, and have to have help and become wheel chair bound. Nothing will work in the entire
