A man named Arthur Erickson once stated, “Ancient Rome was as confident of the immutability of its world and the continual expansion and improvement of the human lot as we are today.” The world today is not the first to be immensely confident of its durability, constant development and enhancement of the human lot; in fact, Ancient Rome was also immensely confident of its longevity, endless spread and renovation. The Roman Empire lasted for roughly 2000 years. Rome was named after Romulus when he defeated his brother Remus. The Roman Empire consisted of 3 different cities, Rome, Carthage, and Constantinople. The world today has many different holidays to celebrate god/the gods, much like the Roman Empire did. The Romans had a festival day for each important god; in fact, over 200 festivals were held yearly. The world today has a plethora of holidays for different religions such as Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Easter, and so many more to celebrate god/the gods. The Romans believed that the gods would take care of people, much like the people of the world today. People in today’s world pray to/worship their gods in different ways, whether it be giving thanks, or to ask for something. Citizens of the Roman Empire worshipped their gods in many ways, one being bringing meat and other goods to give. The Songhai Empire believed in polytheism, magic, sorcery, spirit/witchdoctor worship, and witchcraft. The Romans were known for exquisite realistic paintings and mosaics made from stone, glass or tile on a surface. Today’s society uses realistic paintings and mosaics for several reasons, from decoration to selling them and making money. The Roman Republic used art to tell stories, much like the current society does. People today use different forms of art to tell stories such as books, graffiti, statues, and much more. The women of the Songhai Empire created pottery while the men created masks made of wood with color, which they called kifwebe. The Roman community created arches, domes, columns, and vast temples that inspire the works in today’s
