Andrew Jackson was an autocrat because the Indian removal, National Bank Controversy, and the Spoils System documents state so. In the Indian Removal document 1, it states that many Jacksonians and Farmers are moving American Indians out of their original places like Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida and moving them westward toward Oklahoma. This supports that Jackson is an autocrat because the people are not showing that they believe in the political or social equality of the Indians with themselves. Also, in the Indian Removal document 3, it supports document 1 and how they are wanting to move the indians out of their land because they say that the indians are “destroyed and broken” so they want them to move where they won’t be harmed. He is saying that no appointment to continue in office is a matter of right. This supports my argument because Jackson is saying that he should be general and he is better than others. The picture in the Spoils System document 1 shows Jackson riding a pig and has a sign saying “To the Victors Belong the Spoils” meaning that only election winners were entitled to hand out government jobs to their loyal followers. This means that Jackson is an autocrat because he is showing that he is only going to hand out jobs to his followers and not anyone else. Lastly, the National Bank Controversy documents state so. In the National Bank Controversy document 1, it says how Jackson is becoming “worthy” to the people and in the picture, Jackson is dressed wealthy while standing on papers that look like the constitution.
