Andrew vetoed a bill that would have renewed the cooperative charter of the Second Bank of the United States. Jackson himself despised the United States Bank, which is what led him to veto the bill. Jackson wrote a lengthy letter explaining that the bank was unconstitutional. He also said that it was unnecessary for an institution to be so big and powerful. But yet, it only helped the privileged few. Jackson had to challenge the Supreme Court to be able to veto the bill.
