Should anyone purchase a pet when there are so many in shelters needing a good home?
Many people have rescue dogs and cats. These animals come from shelters and rescue organizations, ir sometimes a rescue animal will find a home directly from the street. Rescue animals can often make the best pets. It is surprising to see the different ages, breeds, and behavior of animals found in shelters. The reasons many animals end up in shelters are endless. Bad breeders and are the main reason animals end up in a shelter in the first place. There have been a lot of stories in the last few years about buying from a breeder vs adopting from a shelter. One of the most frequent reasons is they want a dog for a specific purpose such as to bred or for protection. They are not simply looking for a per. When an animal is purchased from a breeder it will most often come with the proper registration. There is also the advantage of purchasing a young pet to raise the way the owner may see fit. When someone is looking for an animal to breed then the route of a breeder is a better option for their investment since the cost to purchase an animal is usually much higher than to adopt. According to consumer reports "If the best choice is to purchase a puppy form a breeder it does not make this a person bad or wrong. When it is a specific breed that is wanted a breeder may be the only option." (Anderson, 2008) The breeder should will be able to provide all the proper registration and history on the animals' parents. It is important to make sure and research the breeder that is chosen in order to ensure that the breeder is reputable. A blogger on a popular dog blog states "seeking out the top breeder of a specific breed and waiting for a pup from a future litter, playing a role in the entire process-yes I can see the appeal to that" (Stordahl, 2011). Dog breeders are not the issue they do not cause the pet overpopulation problem, Irresponsible owners do.
