There is no duty for animals, so animals do not have rights. And till now there are only laws for some specific species of animals. Animals have variety reasons as medical research subjects. Animals are similar with humans in biologically. They also have many of the same health problems with human. When it is impractical to do the medical research on human, and the health problems that can only be studied in a living organism, animals are best choice to be taken the medical research. On the other hand, animals have more short life than human that they are more convenience to be studied throughout their whole life. In addition, experimenters can easily control the external condition, such as the research environment, temperature and diet.
In the UK, for example, a new drug must have been tested on two different species of live mammal. However, those who are opposed to animal testing and view it as an unnecessary infliction of suffering cite that the stress an animal experiences will impact the accuracy of the results, rendering them useless.
