Through the usage of imagery, the speaker is able to communicate their struggle in reflecting upon their childhood, showing that the speaker is still struggling to deal with growing up and losing the good moments that they remember; communicating to the readers that spending too much time missing what you once had can cause you to enter a state of negativity. The use of imagery paints a picture for the reader of how the speaker reflects upon their past. The bright parts from their childhood are touched upon as the speaker looks back on them. Deeming that they decide to spend an entire paragraph describing this one particular moment allows the reader to understand all that they felt they had within this particular moment. Reflecting upon what they may have had once upon a time could allow for them to feel a sense of heaviness in reflecting upon what they no longer have, which creates a sense of heaviness within the paragraph. The use of hyperbole imagery allows for the reader to comprehend how the speaker feels about only remembering certain moments within their childhood, and how the speaker feels about going toward their future. The speaker points out how they are no longer able to speak a language they once could, and the sadness that surrounds that: “I can’t speak the same language/ know love as/ bursts/ moments/ and the rest of this life,/ as running to try and catch/ the whole sun/ I don’t know that once/ you speak of/ at least I can’t remember it/ sorry/ wish I could” (the last paragraph).
