Diagnosis:
Caden is an 11-year old boy who has specific obsessions he must follow through with in order to have the ability to go throughout his day. He cannot sleep until he has told his mother every last minute detail of the events that occurred that day. Moreover, Caden cannot have any scraps of paper or other items of what he considers debris on the floor of his bedroom. The bed must be pushed right against the wall of his room and three chairs must stand by Caden’s bed and his pillows have to lie in a particular way before sleeping. In order for him to fall asleep, he feels the need to kick out a certain number of times with both legs and lay on his side, all signifying factors of Obsession-Compulsion Disorder (OCD).

This therapy was used by therapists in order to try and understand a patient’s symptoms, by focusing on factors such as childhood experiences and the relationship with the therapist. The therapists try and help their patients explore and gain perspective on “defended-against” thoughts and feelings. They talk to their clients face to face about once a week for a few weeks or months.
Psychodynamic therapy could be used in Caden’s case. Techniques such as dream analysis and interpretation, free association, and transference analysis allow the therapist to gain an understanding and work through unconscious impulses, wishes, drives, and conflicts the individual deals with in their everyday lives. This could help reduce the compulsions and maybe even eliminate them.

Biopsychosocial: Biopsychosocial is therapy that uses medication and another treatment plan such as talk therapy, cognitive, or behavioral.
