A reason college should cost less is that many students may drop out because they cannot afford college. Students that come from a lower income family background are more likely to drop out and never finish college due to financial reasons. In the first year of schooling 30% of undergraduates drop out. If high schoolers are banking on their grades, they may not want to. Only about .3% of students get a full ride on grades (www.cbsnews.com), that’s only 20,000. And 69.2% of 2015 high school graduates were enrolled in colleges or universities (www.bls.gov). That’s not very many people that get a full ride scholarship. Oh, and don’t forget about the athletes only 2% get a scholarship and the average scholarship is less than $11,000 (www.cbsnews.com). Most athletes think they are going to get a scholarship.
