Somebody’s Always Watching
Isn’t it unfair for someone to watch your every move? So that you have no privacy, whatsoever? People use the tapes from the surveillance cameras to blackmail. For example in 1997, “DC was caught using police databases to gather information on partons of a gay club. By looking up the license plate numbers of cars parked at the club and researching the backgrounds of the vehicles’ owners, he tried to blackmail patrons who were married.”
(What’s Wrong With) I believe we should not have surveillance cameras watching us where ever we go.
Everyone will change in public if we have surveillance cameras. “The growing presence of public cameras will bring subtle but profound changes to the character of our public spaces. When citizens are being watched by the authorities- or aware they might be watched at anytime- they are more self-conscious and less free-willing.” (What’s Wrong
With) This quote is saying that people aren’t themselves when they’re being watched by authorities. And we should not be influenced by fear.
They say that they use video surveillance because they want to prevent terrorist attacks. “The implicit justification for the recent push to increase video surveillance is the threat of terrorist attacks. But suicide attackers are clearly not deterred by video cameras”
(What’s Wrong With). This just shows how useless and unhelpful cameras are to use in public. that goes on to our other subject.
