Many believe that the issue of racial profiling is a touchy subject. The definition of Racial Profiling defined by the Oxford Dictionary is “The use of race or ethnicity as grounds for suspecting someone of having committed an offence.” Racial profiling has been a hot ticket issue covered by many media sources these past few years. Many people opinions on the the issue is that racial profiling is bad and can be nothing but bad. What these people fail to realize the majority of racial profiling can be justified especially when it comes to law enforcement.
This Is very evident when it comes to homicides and catching the offenders. “Paul Brown the chief spokesman for commissioner Kelly describe stops as “life-saving.” And he has said repeatedly that the racial makeup of the people stopped and frisked is proportionally similar to the racial makeup of people committing crimes,” (----). Brown’s statement seems very evident when you compare population sizes to percent homicide offenders based on race. Black people only make up 13% of the U.S. population but commit 52% of all homicides, while white people are 63% of the population and only commit 45% of all homicides.
