Our actions have a greater impact on oppression than our inaction. By going against oppressive ideas or protesting against them, we can bring change. Despite years of trying to fight racism, it still hasn't stopped and countless amounts of people are still subjected to it daily. Racism is predominant because of people's biases and experiences with other ethnicities, which leads to stereotyping, but we need to speak up about it because racism is unacceptable. If we are faced with racism, then we should speak up about it because this allows people to feel like it is okay to treat you like this. One example of fighting against racism can be seen from the BLM protests, where people of black communities felt like they were being mistreated, so they …show more content…
It can be argued that they would still be mistreated since they did not take any action to stop it. The protest was great because the majority of these protests were peaceful without causing any harm to others or things around them. This also raised awareness of how they are treated with stereotypes such as black people are all criminals and are uneducated, but this is not true because it is only believed that because people think that all black people are part of gangs, when a lot of them are not like that and are contributing members of society, and should be treated fairly and with respect just like any other person. Many great leaders in history have also been of African American descent, for example Barack Obama, who was the forty-fourth US president. Protesting is one way of fighting against oppression. One may argue that peaceful protesting is not very effective, but if we go down in the events that I have gone down in history, we can see that it is effective because we can look at the Salt March, which was a non-violent protest led by Mahatma
