Introduction
Me the one and only Betsy Ross formerly known as Elizabeth Griscom, we will get to the name change later. I was born in Philadelphia January 1, 1752, I was the eighth out of seventeen children, I was also one of the nine kids to survive to adulthood (eight died in infancy). My mother is Rebecca Griscom and my father is Samuel Griscom. I have a lot to talk about, I am mostly known for creating the Original American flag with the thirteen stars, I …show more content…
That's where my former name ties in I used to be a Griscom. But that all came to a crashing end, this is how it all started. I am a Quaker (it's a religion) and so is my family, the Quaker religion is also referred to as The Society of Friends. I had been put in charter school my entire life and once I finished my dad put me into an upholstery as an apprentice, well when I was an apprentice I meant this wonderful man named John Ross. Well him and I fell in love but rules in the Quaker religion say I am not to marry any man outside of the religion and unfortunately John was not a Quaker, but I was in love. So I ran off and eloped with John Ross. Well my family banished me from the church and the religion and of course my family. So I then became Betsy …show more content…
He died from a gunpowder explosion. I then married again, his name was joseph ashburn, he was a sailor. Joseph and I had two daughters together. Our first daughter zilla died at the age of 9 months. Then our second daughter was born her name was Eliza. Joseph’s ship was captured by the british and he was put in the british jail, he later died in the jail. I married once more to a man named John claypoole. John was in jail with my former husband when he died. When i married John we had five kids. Harriet was my daughter but she also died. Out of my seven daughters only five lived to adulthood.
Main Idea 3: her upholstery My upholstery
My first husband and I started an upholstery, we fixed armor and packed little paper packs of bullets. Although i did start this with my first husband, after he died I worked tirelessly to keep the shop up and running, I did this for about a year before I got married again. I have excellent sewing skills, I had learned from my aunt as a young child. John and I opened the shop shortly after we eloped, we worked in the shop for three years until he died. I kept the shop long after John passed on.
