Examine Biases
Although I haven’t considered myself to be a bias person, I must admit I discovered that I occasionally have biases that I never thought about. As I stated in one of my papers I wrongfully assumed that the employees at Home Depot were less educated. After catching myself on that assumption, I am more mindful and continually ask myself if I may be utilizing some bias opinions in my thinking. Going forward, I am going to be very conscience of this when formulating an opinion as well in making decisions.

An example of this would be when I ask my staff for their opinion on how to change a process for better efficiency, they provide sound ideas, however, I don’t always allow them to implement the process their way. With many years of experience and actually doing their tasks, I sometimes, implement my idea as I think they are better. Recently I have adjusted that model and most always allow them to put to practice their ideas. If it is successful, it is a “win, win” for all, if we find there may be a better alternative, I believe the practice assists them going forward to think more critically at the situation and provide an improved solution. Upon my arrival, I continued to hear “that is how we always did it”. I carefully explained in detail why there was a better alternative. Very rarely do I hear that now, instead they request me to review a process and make a suggestion to improve
