Firstly, none of the people living in his land are happy without soma. Secondly, not everyone is equal within their group. Bernard is clearly not equal to Helmholtz in any way. Helmholtz is stronger, smarter, and more popular than Bernard, so clearly the systems set in place to keep everyone in their group fair is not effective. These small failures or mistakes may seem irrelevant, but they send a message about Mond. Overall, Mond is not an effective leader, and if he cannot lead this group then he can never really be god. Things go from bad to worse for Mond when John arrives. John is proof that Mond is a perfect godly being. He did the one thing he tried to eradicate. This is a clear sign from Huxley that Mond is a fraud. Mond could take this moment to change his views, but he ignores it. John being expelled from the land could be interpreted as John repenting. The final blow is that he wanted them to live out their life unhappy, but instead his son John hangs himself. This is his message to Mond saying that Mond cannot control him
