“Sometimes incivility carries a tinge of aggression: casually mocking or belittling others, spreading rumors, talking down, or excluding someone from a meeting. Incivility does not even have to be intentional to have an impact. Small discourtesies like interrupting, not expressing thanks, showing up late, and failing to return phone calls can take a toll, especially over time” ( Adler, Elmhorst and Lucas, 2013, p.120). Bullying goes on in every workplace; the question is how does one deal with aggression, criticism, deviousness, and gate keeping. When working in an environment that a person feels uncomfortable; and victimized in a person tends, to shut down from everyone else. I worked in healthcare for 10 years or more, and I have experienced abundance of bullying from co-workers. The one thing I learned from the situation, is never let them win; try to new skills to alleviate the situation. Reframe your way of thinking, if one thinks their environment is hostile try talking to Manager; or Supervisor to be placed in a different department. Workplace bullying is sometimes hard to get around, especially when one constantly facing that person every day. Will I be able to go this person and resolve the conflict? It is always good to set boundaries with the bully, let them know firsthand that it will not be tolerated, and if the situation continues they will get reported. Unlike my situation it escalated, then the problem was solved, never show emotion toward someone that starting the conflict, bullies like to see fear it lets them know that they have control of the situation.
