When the play Julius Caesar opens, Caesar just returned to Rome after defeating the sons of Pompey in battle. As Caesar goes through the streets of Rome, the people of Rome are nervous about his power. Caesar goes to the festival of the Lupercal, and that is when Caesar sees the Soothsayer and that is when the Soothsayer says, “Beware the Ides of March!” Caesar thinks nothing of it. While Caesar is at the festival of the Lupercal, Cassius and Brutus talk behind Caesar’s back. Cassius has been plotting against Caesar because he thinks that Caesar is acting like a king.
