Capstone Reflection

When I first started my thought process on what topic I wanted to research, I was writing a speech on ADHD for speech class. Since I was already researching the topic I thought I would go ahead and chose this topic for my capstone project. I figured by using this topic for both classes I would be saving time. I also knew that ADHD was widely researched in many areas, but I wanted to see why so many children are being diagnosed more than ever. I had everything to go and it seemed my project was taking off easy, probably a little too easy. Well I then found out that I wouldn’t be able to observe children, so my ideas on how to do the project had to change or pick another topic. After talking with the teacher, I came up with the idea for a new topic, which would be “Dose Alternative Flexible Seating Improve Children’s Attention Span.” I would have a focus group, which contained teachers in primary grades. Thinking of my theses I wanted to know how the seating helps the child. I have a child who has to use alternative seating due to his constant need to move, but would it help other children too? I know flexible seating is a huge topic in the educational fields. My degree is education, so I figured this would help me down the

I came across many articles and blogs, but very few solid scholar articles; therefore, this made things a little challenging. The articles and one research piece from a journal I used both seemed to reference the same people. Authors of the pieces of text I used seem to be well known in their area of study. Still with solid pieces of text I wasn’t able to fully establish if this seating was better at improving children’s attention span. The articles and research I did find was all done with a very small group. The populations referenced in the papers didn’t represent a high enough
