1. How do you feel about your work on this project?
I felt overwhelmed at first in putting together the paper because I thought there was not enough information to write about. However, when I started writing the paper I noticed there was more information that pertained to my patient's systemic health and oral health than I realized. Every patient is different and even though my patient didn't have an extensive medical history, he did have other habits that could cause systemic conditions. How would you improve upon your project?
I would have recommended gradual reduction in quitting tobacco products rather then cold turkey on his quit date. My patient did seem very confident in quitting on his quit date. However, when he realized it was harder then he thought it would be it made him think quitting was almost impossible. I hope he doesn't give up on tobacco cessation because he is very capable of quitting.
4. What was particularly satisfying to you about the end-product or the process?
The end-product was very satisfying. Although, there were no change in the appearance of the gingiva due to the effects smoking. However, I was able to show my patient the stain caused by smoking, which helped my patient to set a quit date. Although, my patient did end up smoking two weeks after the quit date. However, I think my patient will continue to gradually decrease the amount of cigarettes in order to improve his oral health and systemic health. My patient was also very compliant and was open to suggestions. My patient also improved on his nutritional habits. His plaque score was also improving at each appointment due to his improved home care.
