Fractional photothermolysis involves the use of a microscopic laser spot to create columns of thermal injury in the dermis. The surrounding tissue is left intact and contributes to the rapid healing of the injured tissue. The advantage of fractional photothermolysis in comparison to non-fractionated lasers is a more effective treatment outcome with only mild to moderate erythema present for approximately 7 days..

Indications for fractional photothermolysis are fine lines and wrinkles, photo damage, pigmentation, scarring (surface). And actinic keratosis.

A wavelength of 1550nm is still deep penetrating and will target the chromophore water rather than melanin.

Syneron MatrixIR-The MatrixIR combines fractional laser (915nm) with bi-polar radiofrequency. Indications of the MatrixIR include wrinkles and superficial scars. Results can usually be seen after 2-3 sessions with usually 3-5 the recommended amount.

Palomar Lux1540 non-ablative fractional resurfacing laser- uses a wavelength of 1540nm, it uses high precision microbeams to create deep but narrow columns of tissue ccoagulation.
The Palomar Lux1540 can improve skin tone and texture, smooth some acne scarring, remove fine lines and wrinkles, and rejuvenate the
