The intervention that was used by the interviewer was an evidence-based approach called “Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy” or “TF CBT” (Medical University of South Carolina, YEAR). “TF CBT” assists youth and adolescents as well as their caregivers with processing and overcome traumatic experiences such as violence, sexual abuse, and loss (Child Welfare Information Gateway, 2012, p. 1). The goals of “TF CBT” are to correct the negative beliefs related to the trauma; decrease the harmful behavioral and emotional reactions related to the trauma; and provide non-offending parents with personal support and skill training to help with both their personal grief and their ability to support their children (Child Welfare Information Gateway, 2012, p. 4).
