We / I have the responsibility to protect them from anyone or anything that could cause harm. Everything we do we must have the best interests of the child protect them from physical emotional harm. I must report any risks I come across to my supervisor whether it is from neglect or down to broken toys or equipment other children or family member’s failure to report this could be seen as neglect on my part and could be reported and in some cases be prosecuted.
Describe potential conflicts or dilemmas that may arise between the duty of care and an individual’s rights.
A potential conflict or dilemma could be if we have to explain to or suggest that a child may need help i.e. in speech and language or maybe hyper activity some parents don’t like to hear that their child may have a problem in these cases we have to follow the wishes of the parent no matter how much we disagree. If it was a more server problem we would seek advice on how to deal with the situation as the key thing is the child always comes first and the safety and wellbeing is paramount.
Describe how to manage risks associated with conflicts and dilemmas between an individual’s rights and the duty of care.
Always make sure you are never alone when talking to parents. if suggesting a child may need help always start by telling parents how great they are first then suggest they may just need little help in other areas and have evidence of your findings ready to show them. If it maybe something more serious such as a parent seems to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol we would keep the child safe if we felt that the parent was approachable we would suggest they call another family member or friend to collect the child if not we would call the police to deal with the situation.
