In the video about China’s One Child Policy we get a big glimpse of macropolitics in action. China’s One Child Policy is a policy in which couples in China must get permission to have a child and they are limited to that single child. There are a few exceptions, but for the large part they must have only one child. This is an example of macropolitics because the government set in place a nationwide and the largest population control effort in history. The social change that we see many people in China trying to promote is the view that women are equal to men. As said earlier China has a heavily patriarchal society in which men are viewed as superior to women and men have the power. This is due to the age old tradition that the men will be the ones to take care of the elderly. Recently we have seen a change to this idea presented in the video. With a catastrophic gender imbalance looming overhead they have now started a proactive social movement whose main purpose is to change their societies view on women to help fix the problems created by the one child policy. The members of this social movement do many things to help educate the populous on the fact that men and women are equals. They have incorporated classes for the general public to come attend where they educate them on good family planning and on how having a baby girl is not bad. They educate the society and tell them how women can become productive and successful members of society. They also travel to the outer regions of China and rural areas to specifically educate these people on good family planning and how girls are good to have. They target these regions because they see a huge emphasis on old traditions and a massive gender imbalance. Many of the people who teach these ideals are women themselves so it also shows that women can be a productive member of their society which gives them a little boost on educating the people. This proactive social movement hell bent on giving women a name is sweeping across the country to help counteract the effects of the one child policy and to help slow the abandonment and infanticide issues that China is experiencing from the one child
