Sacrifice is a large part of progress. (2) Along with progress comes sacrifice and sometimes sacrifice can be harmful to others, even though our world flouirshes on progress it can ruin many peoples lives.(3) Actually a great example for this is the Transcontinental Railroad, multitudes of Native Americans were pushed away from their homelands because the railroad allowed whites from all over to come and settle. Many fights broke out due to the ineffable angry the natives held. So when is sacrife acceptable and when is it not? Surely sacrice is acceptable when it is by choice, but not when thrusted or forced upon a person. (6) For that can often be calamitous.

Along side these boys was the incongruous Herb Brooks, who was known for his inexorable ways of coaching. Herb had a dream to beat the Soviet Union and because of this dream many peopl were apprehensive, the main reason being the Soviets were deemed unbeatable. (5) While, away playing a game in Norway against the Norwiegn B team Herb was furious to notice that his team was not paying attention to the game but instead were lazying around like a bunch of fat cats at nap time, this showed a lack of effort to their coach. (2) Because of this Herb had the boys line up on the end line getting ready to do the dreaded sprints that the boys nicknamed 'Herbies', their coach paced the ice with fire in his eyes as he scanned each boy wearing a USA jersey."If you don't want to skate during the game, then you'll skate after it." (Coffey 13). Herb was ruthless he skated the boys until they vomited and gasped for air their lungs burning, but he knew this would push them. (3) Ultimately it did. These boys chose to sacrifice their outside lives and NHL contracts to play for the Olympic team, and with the night in Norway and the dream of beating the Soviets burned in their brains they went on to Lake Placid and did the impossible.
