Henry David Thoreau’s essay on civil disobedience has been around for about 168 years, yet its words contain an influence that has shaped men, groups, and even history. It is hard to deny the impact Civil Disobedience has had on history; it inspired Gandhi to practice Satyagraha and Martin Luther King to stand up against injustice. Thoreau’s characteristics and arguments for civil disobedience are a foundation in creating change, and his values are found in successful revolutionaries, both past and present. Colin Kaepernick is a current example of an individual who has demonstrated Thoreau’s principles on civil disobedience.
