Oscar-Claude Monet was born in November of 1840, in Paris. He was born into a strong Parison family. Monet’s father worked in their family’s shipping business. Monet was expected to work with his father but he had different ideas. His mother, Louise, was a singer and introduced Monet to the arts.
When he was young, Claude Monet despised being indoors, especially in the classroom. He even resorted to drawing caricatures of his teachers. He would draw different people he saw in his sketchbooks. His mother supported his artistic interest, making her death especially hard for him.
As he grew older, Monet became popular for his drawings and caricatures of the residents around town. He caught the attention of a local artist who introduced Monet
