Around the 1860’s, it was just the beginning of the era of Impressionism. Claude Monet was a man that loved to use thick brush strokes, but he did his work with a loose hand. As he began doing most of his art work like that, many others followed behind him. In April 1874, Monet and many others formed a group and called themselves the “Impressionist”, which was the start of the Impressionism movement. In November 14, 1840, Oscar Claude Monet was born in Paris, France. Bio. Says that at an early age Monet loved to draw and paint, but hated being confined to his classroom. He was way more interested in being outdoors than dealing with teachers. Monet would have his schoolbooks filled with sketches of people he knew. As your eyes wander all over the painting, you notice how the same colors are used over and over again. The sky and small portions of the water has blended strokes of orange and light yellows. There are shades of greens and blues used to create what looks to be either a construction site or boat docks and the reflection of it on the water. More to the right side of the painting, there are lighter values of the greens and blue to give the painting that transparent look to the water.
